Ram Bahadur Thapa, commonly known as Badal, is a senior communist leader and former insurgent commander. Born on May 12 1955 in Gulmi District, he served as general secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and later as Minister for Defence and Minister for Home Affairs. He joined the CPN‑UML after the split of the Nepal Communist Party and currently serves as its vice president. He was nominated to parliament through the PR list representing indigenous nationalities.
